Why R08 happens
- The customer disputes the bill or wants to pay another way.
- The customer asked the bank to stop one payment, or every future payment to you.
What to do next
If you sent the payment
- Contact the customer to find out why the payment was stopped.
- Do not send it again unless the customer authorizes that after the return.
- If the customer wants to cancel altogether, stop future payments.
Message you can send the customer
Change the words in [square brackets] before you send it.
Hello [name], Your ACH payment of [amount] dated [date] was returned because a stop payment was placed on it (return code R08). We will not send the payment again unless you tell us to. Please let us know if this was a mistake, or if you want to cancel. Thank you, [business]
If you got the notice about your own account
- To stop a recurring payment, give your bank the order at least three business days before the scheduled date.
- Also tell the business that you are cancelling, so it stops sending payments.
