What R12 means
The account was moved to a different bank because the bank or branch was sold.
R12 key facts

| Time frame | 2 banking days The receiving bank must send the return so that it reaches the sending bank by the opening of business on the second banking day after the payment settled. |

| Can you send it again? | Only after you fix the reason for the return. Under the general Nacha rule, a returned payment may be sent again within 180 days if you have corrected the problem. |

Why R12 happens
- A bank merger or branch sale moved the account to a new bank with a new routing number.
What to do next
If you sent the payment
- Ask the customer for their new routing and account numbers.
- Update your records and send a new payment.
If you got the notice about your own account
- Give the business the routing and account numbers from your new bank.
